Pastor Dave correction and clarification …

Can you see my red face? 🙂

Hello All,

Just a brief note to correct something I said in yesterday morning’s message. I listened to the message this morning on my exercise bike and groaned when I heard what I said … twice … that God commanded statues to be constructed to worship. God did not command statues to be constructed to be worshiped. He did command two statues to be made to overshadow the mercy seat. See reference below.

• (Exodus 25:18–20 ESV) And you shall make two cherubim of gold; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat. 19 Make one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end. Of one piece with the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on its two ends. 20 The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be.

I hope that those of you who were there yesterday understood from the context of the message that I did not mean this. God had a purpose for the cherubim but certainly worshiping them was not the purpose. As happens, I was probably trying to cram too much information into one sermon and my mind was cluttered. I plan to clarify my wrong statement next Sunday, but I was so bothered by this that I wanted to say something now.

Sincerely,

Pastor Dave
