The defiant survivors of the first two woes of Revelation 9!
Those who survive the first two woes still refuse to change their minds (repent) concerning the works of their hands. The idea of human works as a means of appeasing God (or more accurately “the gods”) is deeply ingrained and interwoven in the soul of sinful, fallen humanity. It is like a death grip that invariably leads people to create false worship and then to cling to what they have created. This false worship reveals itself itself in thousands of variations, but everyone who worships what they have created walks the same path of death, the way that seems right and natural to a man or woman.
- (Proverbs 14:12 The Message) There’s a way of life that looks harmless enough; look again—it leads straight to hell.
People will not give up the only thing in which they have hope. And we see here, even in the face of God’s wrath and judgment, they defiantly cling to their direction. Therefore having no hope except what they can manufacture themselves these people are driven to satisfy the deep desires of their mind and soul, only finding solace in deeds of darkness. Driven by false hope they are imprisoned in murders, sorceries (drugs), sexual immorality and theft (taking what belongs to someone else).
