Hi All,
Here is this week’s bulletin.
Pastor Dave
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. It’s a day dedicated to honoring and remembering the men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it was first observed after the Civil War to commemorate those who died in that conflict. Today, it’s a time for reflection, remembrance, and honoring the sacrifices of all those who have served in the military.
Civil War Origins: The holiday began as Decoration Day after the Civil War, with communities decorating the graves of fallen soldiers.
Expanded Scope: Over time, Memorial Day expanded to include those who died in all wars and military actions.
Traditional Observances: Many people honor Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries and memorials, placing flags on graves, attending ceremonies, and participating in parades.
Official Federal Holiday: Memorial Day became a national holiday in 1971.
