Francis Schaeffer – The Finished Work of Christ

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? (6: 1-2)

Remember we have seen that, just as we were justified on the basis of Christ’s shed blood, we can claim cleansing on that same basis whenever we sin. God doesn’t expect us to be some kind of Nietzschean superman. He knows that we will still sin. But why can’t we, after becoming Christians, learn to walk on the same principle of faith by which we were saved? Why can’t we keep drawing on the finished work of Christ through faith so that we do live as living people instead of on the other side of the ledger?
