AUDIO for Sunday December 6, 2015

long ago Hebrews 1-1

Do we understand Christmas?

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away …”

That is the opening crawl beginning every film in the Star Wars series.

Now listen to our text for today.

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets …”

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away …”

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets …”

Both lines capture us. Both lines thrust us into an amazing journey and an epic struggle between good and evil.

But only one of these stories is true. Only one of these stories is set in eternity. Only one of these stories has life or death meaning for every person who has been born on this planet. Only one can deliver the hope promised.

One story dies with its human creators, the other continues forever, goodness beyond what our minds can conceive.

God coming to Earth. Do we understand what has happened? Do we understand what we have?

STUDY SHEETS for Sunday December 6, 2015

Jesus Messiah-The Prequel - movie theater

I like Christmas.

And … I am not going to bemoan the commercialism. What else should we expect from a world apart from Christ? Besides, I like the excitement of sharing gifts. I like bringing happiness to people in this way and sharing the happiness of others doing the same. I like hitting Amazon for just the right gift for the person I love and picturing their joy. Guys, I’m a little hesitant to say this out loud, but I like shopping with my wife. There. I’m out of the closet. 🙂

Commercialism and Black Friday and Cyber Monday and dysfunctional family gatherings … That isn’t the Christian problem, as in what the follower of Jesus should identify if he or she is confused about the meaning of Christmas. It is easy to point the finger and blame, but really, who is to blame if you are not honoring God in your life?

Our problem is that it is easy to forget, to lose our spiritual edge and awareness.

Even something as momentous, as epochal as the Son of God coming to this planet to bring us salvation. The mockers even bring our attention to how long it has been and our foolishness in hanging on to hope that was promised 2,000 years ago.

And we cannot remember, not on our own.

So we are going to look into the distant past and look into the distant future to remind ourselves what has happened and what that means to us when the Son of God came to Earth as an infant Child.

Choir Songs from Thanksgiving Service 2015

Our choir did a great job again for Thanksgiving.

  • Thank you so much choir. Here are the songs we sang and a couple with the congregation joining us. We added a sanctuary microphone a few months ago, not to project the live sound through the system but to allow me to record the audio–singing and spoken word. Works very well. I still need to do some tweaking, as I would like to have a little stronger signal, but really it is doing just what I had hoped for. Thanks to the guys on the board for going with this extra (not huge) expense.

I can also burn these songs to CD at your request.

STUDY SHEETS for Sunday November 29, 2015

wisdom who gets it outstretched arms man

Wisdom. Who really gets it?

Who is wise and understanding among you?

Don’t have to guess.

James tells us this week in James 3. Will we be listening?

Similar to last week’s text, this is very plain and clear, and difficult to accept. But if we will surrender our ideas and thoughts, and make them all bow down and obey Christ, what a blessing on the path ahead, for us and for the people to whom God will express his greatness and love and mercy … through us.

Message Title: Who Get’s It?
