Study, study, study, Dave. Very excited about this Genesis study. A great challenge and a great blessing ahead. And today we begin. Bless you, God Most High for your absolutely amazing Word of truth.

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

    • Do you believe that? Do you believe your Bible is what I am asking?
    • Do you trust what God says in the Bible? Do you trust what God says to be accurate and reliable? Do you trust God that he will clearly communicate to you what you need to know?
    • “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
    • Very plain and straightforward. Simple and clear. You do not need a seminary degree or doctorate to understand God’s words here.
    • “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
    • Maybe it is possible that when you hear those words that you also hear a conflicting voice from a university professor, or a respected scientist, or a well-known author, or a liberal pastor or a confused Christian, or maybe the devil himself saying, “Did God really say that?”
    • Years ago you may have heard, “God said it, I believe it, that settles it!” I think there is even a song with that title. Then someone revised it to “God said it, that settles it!”
    • The doctrine of the clarity or perspicuity of Scripture teaches us that the central message of the Bible is clear and understandable, and that the Bible itself can be properly interpreted in a normal, literal sense. In other words on the things crucial to the faith, God speaks very plainly and clearly.
    • “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
    • Do you believe that? Do you believe your Bible? I want you to know this morning that you have every good and excellent reason to do so!

And here we are. This week we begin our study in Genesis. Very exciting.

Method and Approach: Believe God. Trust his Word.

My method and approach for this study. Fully and completely accept and teach what is plainly written in Scripture. Evolutionary belief and the sway of the “natural” sciences will not dictate our course.

The Big Question: Do we truly believe God and accept his word of truth above and beyond any other source?

God said it. That settles it.

I believe it. That settles it for me.

He Was Wounded For Our Transgressions

Verse 1: He was wounded for our transgressions, He bore our sins in His body on the tree, For our guilt He gave us peace, From our bondage gave release, And with His stripes and with His stripes, And with His stripes our souls are healed.

How firm is your foundation? Will it stand the judgment of God?

Jesus Christ wants us to check our foundation. Make sure that we have entered by the narrow gate that brings us to the difficult road that leads to life. Make sure we have not fallen for the wide, easy way that leads to destruction.

He ends his Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) with these exhortations and warnings.

  • Check the gate, 7:13-14.
  • Don’t let anyone lie to you, 7:15-20.
  • Don’t lie to yourself, 7:21-23.
  • Build on Rock, 7:24-29.

But the devil doesn’t want you investigating, examining. Our dark enemy wants you to assume that all is well. In fact, if you allow him to do so, the devil will stir your pride and arrogance against anyone who would dare call your salvation into question.

So think about it!

Christ urges us to make sure our faith is authentic. Where does that leave the people who are indignant when we follow his example and prod people to make sure their foundation is Christ and Christ alone? Who is behind the anger?

The devil doesn’t want you to know that you are on the wide road of destruction until it is eternally too late.
