{"id":3356,"date":"2016-11-27T23:47:49","date_gmt":"2016-11-27T23:47:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.faithfellowship.info\/?p=3356"},"modified":"2016-11-27T23:47:49","modified_gmt":"2016-11-27T23:47:49","slug":"audio-for-sunday-am-november-27-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.faithfellowship.info\/?p=3356","title":{"rendered":"AUDIO for Sunday AM &#8211; November 27, 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.faithfellowship.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Sardis-alive-but-dead-building-zombie-signs.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3357 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.faithfellowship.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Sardis-alive-but-dead-building-zombie-signs.png\" alt=\"sardis-alive-but-dead-building-zombie-signs\" width=\"551\" height=\"443\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.faithfellowship.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Sardis-alive-but-dead-building-zombie-signs.png 551w, http:\/\/blog.faithfellowship.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Sardis-alive-but-dead-building-zombie-signs-300x241.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">The ancient city of Sardis \u2026<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2026 was a somewhat notorious city which Sir William Mitchell Ramsay, the noted Scottish archaeologist and New Testament scholar, described as \u201cmore like a robber\u2019s stronghold than an abode of civilized men.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Paige Patterson writes that \u201cin the cities of Asia Minor, no city was as legendary as Sardis.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Gordon Fee adds that: Of the seven cities to whose churches these letters are written, Sardis easily outstrips the others in terms of its antiquity and well-known history. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">And Warren Wiersbe tells us that: Ancient Sardis, the capital of Lydia, was a most important city. It lay about fifty miles east of Ephesus at the junction of five main roads; so it was a center for trade. It was also a military center, for it was located on an almost inaccessible plateau. The acropolis of Sardis was about 1,500 feet above the main roads, and it formed an impregnable fortress. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Sardis was some kind of town.<\/strong> And the church in Sardis to which our letter in Revelation 3 is addressed was <strong>some kind of church.<\/strong> As it was with the church at Ephesus, if you were thinking about moving to Sardis around AD 95-96, this vibrant church would definitely have been on your radar. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>They had made quite a name for themselves.<\/strong> Whatever they were doing\u2014which in today&#8217;s terms would be outreach, marketing, social media, needs-based programs\u2014must have been the right things because <strong>they had built a reputation in the area as a church that was alive. <\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Except it wasn\u2019t. The church members were dead.
