Standing Fearlessly on the Cliff-Edge of Doom
(Psalm 46:1–3 MSG) 1 God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him. 2 We stand fearless at the cliff-edge of doom, courageous in sea-storm and earthquake, 3 Before the rush and roar of oceans, the tremors that shift mountains. Jacob-wrestling God fights for us, God-of-Angel-Armies protects us.
What do we need to know to stand fearless no matter what?
- We need to know that everything is going to be okay.
How do we know everything is going to be okay?
- We need to know that we have peace with God our Creator.
(Romans 5:1 ESV) 1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
- We need to know that is of first importance regarding how and why we can have peace with God.
(1 Corinthians 15:3–4 ESV) 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
- We need to believe in Jesus Christ and his saving work on the cross.
(John 3:16 ESV) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
(John 20:30–31 ESV) 30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
God want us to know that for those who believe and receive eternal life that he will use everything in our lives for our good and his glory.
(Romans 8:28–29a ESV) 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.
God wants us to know that we have eternal life in Christ.
(1 John 5:13 ESV) 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
